Ford confirms new Focus ST

Range topping performance car will get turbocharged EcoBoost engine; paves way for new RS.

Ford is readying an all-new hot hatch version of the Focus. Speaking on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, product development boss Derrick Kuzak confirmed that a new fast Focus is on the way.

"It will get an EcoBoost turbocharged engine, be exciting to drive, great to look at and certainly worth waiting for," Kuzak said. Likely to be badged ST, the new model will ditch the current car's 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine for a more efficient and more powerful direct injection EcoBoost unit.

Ford is staying tight lipped for now about exact details, but it's thought to be a 2.0-litre offering 250bhp. Along with 350Nm of torque, it should rocket the new ST from 0-60mph in six seconds and onto a top speed of 155mph. That will put it ahead of the VW Golf GTi and as rapid as the RenaultSport Megane 250.

And while enthusiasts will miss the sound of the old ST's warbling five-cylinder unit, they'll welcome the new car's increased efficiency. Expect 35mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 175g/km. Factor in torque vectoring and a range of driving modes – two of the new Focus' highlight features – and it should be a riot to drive.

The new Focus 5dr hatchback will go on sale early 2011, though, so don't expect to see the ST until later that year at the earliest. Before then, Ford will launch a last-of-the-line RS 'Clubsport' before embarking on a replacement for the RS which will get the same 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine, hooked up to a hybrid system complete with four-wheel drive.

Focus ST set for Paris

A fire has been lit under the new Focus! An inside source at Ford has confirmed that a hot ST version of the all-new hatchback will break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October, alongside full production versions of the five-door and estate models.

Rumours have been circulating for some time about when the first new-generation fast Focus would rear its head, but only now do fans of high-performance cars have a date to put in their diary.

Back in March, Ford’s product development boss, Derrick Kuzak, revealed that the all-new Focus ST “will get an EcoBoost turbocharged engine, be exciting to drive, great to look at and certainly worth waiting for”. That suggests the outgoing car’s thirsty 2.5-litre engine is to be replaced by a more efficient 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo unit.

Precise power outputs have yet to be confirmed, but the 2.0-litre EcoBoost – already offered with 200bhp in the S-Max, Galaxy and Mondeo – could easily produce 250bhp and 350Nm of torque. That would pitch the ST squarely at Renaultsport’s Mégane 250, yet still leave room for a 300bhp-plus RS version later in the car’s life cycle.

The hot Ford is expected to be even faster than the super-quick Mégane, delivering 0-62mph in around six seconds and a 155mph top speed. But the ST’s trump card will be its ability to blend this pace with class-leading efficiency. Likely combined economy of 35mpg and 187g/km CO2 emissions would eclipse the 30mpg and 224g/km figures of the current ST by some margin.

In corners, clever torque vectoring software will juggle power between the front wheels to exploit every ounce of grip available to the new model. A variety of driving modes will alter throttle response and steering weight, depending on the driver’s personal preferences.

The Focus five-door hatch and estate are scheduled to go on sale in April 2011, with the ST version due later in the year.

It’s the hottest Focus ST ever! Ford will wow crowds at next month’s Paris Motor Show with this new, VW Golf GTI-rivalling high-performance hatch.

Packing striking looks and a mighty 247bhp turbocharged engine, the ST will sit at the very top of the all-new Focus range, which also debuts in France.

It’s the first model developed by Ford’s global Performance Vehicles team, and features a version of the all-new direct-injection 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine. This replaces the old 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit, and not only offers greater power, but is also far more efficient.

Ford is remaining tight-lipped over performance figures for now. Yet as the car delivers the same output as Renaultsport’s Mégane 250, and has 40bhp more than the Golf GTI and 25bhp more than the outgoing ST, it’s set to cover 0-60mph in less than six seconds and go on to 155mph.

Sports suspension with a clever traction control system featuring torque vectoring will ensure all that punch reaches the road. But with a six-speed manual box, it should return 35mpg combined economy and emit 180g/km of CO2.

The ST’s pace is backed up by its looks. The front end is dominated by a huge mesh grille, while the muscular bodykit incorporates low sills, a roof spoiler and low rear bumper, allowing twin exhausts to exit through its centre. This show car is finished in Tangerine Scream – a bright orange colour which is likely to be an option.

The new ST won’t be available as a three-door (sales of the previous version were slow), but an estate could join the five-door for the first time. Both get a racy cabin, with coloured sports seats, a row of gauges on the facia and carbon fibre and piano black trim.

While the new Focus range goes on sale later this year, the ST won’t appear until late 2011. Expect a £24,000 price tag.

ce look horrible torturé et cette bouche béante tuning 1993
enlever un cylindre qui faisait toute la différence avec la concurrence, on s'en fout de la pollution quand on achète une auto comme ça.

Ford participera officiellement au BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) en 2011 avec une Focus 5 portes -réglementation oblige- basée sur la nouvelle version ST

Ford a présenté la version définitive de la Focus ST à Francfort.

Elle sera commercialisée à l'été 2012. Il s'agit du premier "Global performance vehicle" de Ford qui sera vendu dans une version identique à travers le monde.

La Focus ST n'existera qu'en berline 5 porte et en break, toutes deux équipées d'un 4 cylindres 2.0L turbo développant 250ch pour un couple de 360Nm. BVM6, jantes de 18", pédalier en alu et baquets Recaro en série. Emissions polluantes limitées à 180g/km. 0-60mph annoncé en moins de 6".

Prix de base £25000 + £1000 pour la version break.

L'arrière du break est peut être plus réussi que celui de la berline...

Très bonne auto mais vraiment très moche

Moi je la trouve plutôt réussi.

Par contre, je pense que concernant le malus, il faut que les acheteurs (neufs) fassent pression sur les concessions (et donc les marques) pour qu'elles absorbent le surcoût, et ainsi pousser les lobbys automobiles à aller chanter du côté de l'assemblée...

Oui mais au final tu auras beau tourner dans tous les sens c'est le client qui va payer (Le vendeur va te dire OK pour le malus mais il te fera 1500€ de remise de moins sur sa "remise commerciale" donc ça reviendra au même....)

Je comprends que les constructeurs français n'aient pas bougé le petit doigt pour lutter contre les malus et super-malus puisqu'ils sont favorables aux bouses diesel qu'ils vendent mais quid des importateurs (Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar etc.) ou des distributeurs (Lotus, Caterham) ? Eux sont concernés et pourtant on ne les a pas entendus... du tout
